Dharma.house was founded in 2016, as a complementary offer to traditional meditation centres. Our mission is to inspire, and show by example that it is possible to create, another way of life, free from ordinary pettiness, free from complaining about our circumstances and free from mental rigidity.

Buddhism and society: restraint or engagement?

led by Denis Wallez,

Saturday 20th (7am) – Sunday 21st (7pm) May 2017,

at the house,

in English.

This retreat considers the “engaged” facet of Buddhism. On one hand, monks and nuns vow not to serve certain people to the detriment of others, and the very idea of comparing leaders is rejected (Rājā sutta, Ud 2.2). On the other hand, the Buddha has given political and social advice, not nominatively but in connection with actions that reduce or increase suffering… So, restraint or engagement?
