Developing mindfulness in daily life

The ideal of Buddhism is not a stone-cold, indifferent ‘meditator’ sitting in front of a wall: indifference isn't equanimity. Under the umbrella term ‘meditation’, there are practices to cultivate not only calm but also mindfulness. Mindfulness is manifested by a kind, compassionate alertness, a readiness to respond based on a situation at hand, and an attentive willingness to be constructive. When combined with calm (a restraint from panic or rush), mindfulness becomes helpful for all involved in the situation.


2 days of instructions, questions&answers, experiments and exploration (including some periods of silence). 2–3 nights: arrive Friday evening, leave Sunday evening or Monday.

Detailed program

A week-end is a short retreat period, so we will follow a sequence of quick alternating instructions and personal experiments, which is best to learn. In general, the instructions will take about 10–15 minutes and will be followed by 15 minutes of walking meditation and 20 minutes of seated meditation, then a 25 minutes break (to reflect, have a drink, stretch one's legs…). Some longer breaks at lunch and at the end of the afternoon will allow you to go for walks, to relax in the garden, to read…

Both days start at 07:00, however there's plenty of time for breakfast, shower, etc. between 08:00 and 09:30. No need to panic!

Saturday: from calm to awareness

On the first day, we'll have significant periods of silence (5 hours in the morning, 4.5 hours in the afternoon), to calm the mind enough for the experiments of the second day to be useful.
